Yugoverse - The Big Bang

Updated: Jul 3, 2023

You're probably wondering - How did it all start? Well, let us tell you a short story of Yugoverse: our slow retro world in this fast modern craziness.

Yugoverse is a spite against conformism, elitism, forgetfulness.

It consists of people who share a mutual passion - classic cars. But not only that: we share the love for history, our city, 70s and 80s aesthetics, architecture, music and lifestyle. And our adventure began long before we started working together, and we did that officially in the summer of 2019. Some of us have been collecting Zastava cars in order to save them from their inevitable fate - being left to rot in a junkyard, or being taken apart for spare parts. Some of us have had one very special car, that has been in the family for generations, and we tried taking very best care of it like our parents and grandparents taught us. And some of us just want to watch the world burn.

We all for sure have some things in common - We're stubborn as mules, we refuse to put a price tag on our cars or fall for serious or frivolous offers and we love the suffering of fixing a car that broke down third time this month and trying to figure out what it wants. Driving a Zastava car is somewhat like having a baby that never grows up - most of the time you wonder why you decided to have one in the first place, you're trying to figure out where did that puddle come from, why is it making that strange noise and is it ever going to really do what you're asking it to do. But at the end of the day, you still look at it and think - this is the most beautiful thing in the world and nobody will take care of it the way that I do.

Yugoverse team consists of young enthusiasts who refuse to have their country's history slip away from memory and who are truly passionate about what they do. We take you, our guests from all around the globe, for a ride you'll never forget. Driving around town in an iconic Yugoslavian car while being guided down the history lane that created Belgrade as we know it today is the tour that we've created for you. Our team is not only very knowledgeable about the subject, but also very emotionally involved, which makes the experience of our tour even more memorable. We share with you our personal stories, the tales of our cars - the ones you're sitting in, the tales our parents told us about the great country that Yugoslavia was, and of course we show you in person the monuments of this era, still standing strong and glorious among modern world that surrounds them. Yugoverse was created with one great desire in mind: That no one should be forced to sell their beloved car because of the lack of resources to properly take care of them. This story was heard many times before, and it was always heartbreaking. The owners were separated from their cars forever because they believed that their Zastavas deserved much better care than they could afford to provide for them, and they couldn't bear to see them perish right before their eyes. So the company was formed and these four-wheeled babies could start earning their own pocket money! And our cars are not only cute, but we take pride in their maintenance and general condition. So far we are proud to say that we're only had one car trouble on a tour since 2019. (resolved on the spot!) and we've built our company on a strong base of excellent working and restored cars and skilled drivers.

Today, Yugoverse is a company that consists of drivers and guides with more than a 100 tours under their belts and a great number of people who have left Belgrade full of positive impressions and with new knowledge of Yugoslavian history that they never had the chance of learning. There have been times (not pointing fingers here but 2020 we're looking at you) when we thought about giving up, and when things weren't looking so great. It was the very beginning of our journey and we have just warmed up our engines for this great ride, when everything got abruptly interrupted and our cars went into a long period of hibernation. But in the end, they are our family members, and even though some of them remained unregistered for the time being, we all waited out for the storm to pass and we're now driving, hanging out, sharing our stories with you, laughing and enjoying this job that we love, more than ever. Welcome to Yugoverse, thank you for being here and we're looking forward to seeing you in our backseats!
